The much anticipated release of Fulgore, Story Mode, and Lobbies for Killer Instinct Xbox One could potentially be delayed beyond their intended March release. Microsoft’s creative director, Adam Isgreen, took to NeoGaf to inform everyone that they’re still aiming for a March release, but that a delay isn’t out of the question…

“We are still aiming for March for the big Fulgore/Story/Lobby release. Yes, that’s risky, because the update is chock full of content and we’re 13 days from April. I can only say we’re trying to land it. If we’re delayed out of March, it’s only because we’re being extra-careful to find and address any issues with this major content update.”

While the majority of you will be unhappy with the news, it’s also easy to understand why they want to take all necessary precautions before releasing this to the public. It’s no secret that Killer Instinct has had its fair number of issues with bugs and glitches following every update. If a delay is required to receive a solid, fail proof update, then I’d say it was well worth the wait, wouldn’t you? More info coming soon, so stay tuned!

  1. If they have to delay it, then I can wait. This is why patients is one one of my best when it comes to some things.

  2. They just want to get more money off us talking about bugs its still bugs I pick jago it had sadira up there they try 2 put thunder retro outfit where the players at I just want to delete the whole game but I dont wana waste 40 bucks on the other hand that happen anyway I wish there was a way 2 get my money back I would rather give it to another game

    1. Here’s my thought….I’ve worked construction my whole life….if I were to come to your house would you rather me rush changing out your furnace and possibly screwing up some worrying issue and risk your heart going out in the middle of winter or have me take my time and be thorough and leave your house knowing you have a quality job well done. I don’t understand people this is a concept that has slowly left society. Everyone is impatient nowadays. I’ll take quality first any day.

      1. “Here’s my thought….I’ve worked construction my whole life….if I were to come to your house would you rather me rush changing out your furnace and possibly screwing up some worrying issue and risk your **heart** going out in the middle of winter…”

        Well that escalated quickly.

  3. A little delay is fine BUT to go into April without a release date to look forward to , well lets just say my son wants to just delete the whole game. Says there will always be bugs to fix and if thats why its being delayed it will never be released.

  4. Here’s a few more ideas: How about releasing the official Fulgore gameplay trailer first to keep us KI fans entertain as well as happy for a while and then later on release Fulgore for the game?

    1. And how about a preview of Killer Instinct’s Story/Arcade Mode before or after the Fulgore trailer even?

  5. What would be cool is a little more transparency from DH. Remember the access they have Max and the YouTube videos he posted? If they did that, showed us some stuff, put a disclaimer that says not a finished product (like other games and demos) the community would be more patient. Instead of people bashing KI on threads we’d be discussing how cool the new stuff looks. Also, feed us. Give us the classic outfits, two weeks later give us some accessory packs, etc. Keep the content coming and we’ll be happy. It’s a great game and what we’re upset about is that we want more of it.

    1. Agreed! We all know mistakes and delays happen. When people are open as to why they are happening it shows good on them keeps us feeling like we are moving along with them. Otherwise, It just seems like blank spots and empty promises. You’ve got good sense Diego. I’m with you.

  6. Its amazing how people like myself and others whom have waited 17yrs for this game get a remake and know going in its a play by ear not finished title. It wasn’t rushed it just wasnt finished and this is going to be the “last” update they wanted so they can call it a finished product. But it seems some peeopl wanna piss and moan about a couple of weeks I mean come on you want a good finished product or something else to piss and moan about when theres bugs again ? I know my answer .

  7. Hey I have an idea how about you stop working on other projects before the first one is finished!???? I can already see them dedicating a staff of 4 to this update meanwhile there’s 50 employees working on a different title all together

  8. Come on let us not forget we asked for this we knew it was an unfinished game going in so lets stop gripping n complaining this update needs to finish the game and get rid of bugs and glitches and be the finished product of whst we were promised so come on people

    1. Indeed, yes. Absolutely agree too. I am totally with u on those as well including working out and preventing any last remaining bugs and glitches for KI

  9. Game should have been delayed to begin with, not rushed to X1 launch, which is a hunk of junk anyway and needs its own bugs and changes…. sigh, so sick and tired of companies just throwing rubbish at consumers trying to make a buck. Where is your respect at? Where did quality go? Ya’ll should have joined in with me from E3 onwards in trying to get the game delayed so it could get the real TLC it needed….. Gaming is so fucked today, was better in the 90’s.

  10. I understand with a lot of content coming soon for the next update, i wouldn’t mind waiting a little longer. 2-3 weeks isn’t to much to ask, as long as it doesn’t come with bugs, issues, etc.! Don’t make it longer than that. The KI community just wants to play!!! We are excited to see what’s in store with the new content. Most anticipating Fulgore, story, then lobbies. Make it work!

  11. I agree with the wait if it does get delayed again its worth the wait no bugs no probs and i also agree with the other points that have been brought up like other ppl playing other titles they really should take baby steps learn how to crawl before you stand an walk they pomise alot at least thier giving thier all in making one of best fighting games ive played it is very important to listen rather than be heard hopefully the fans and microsoft do both

  12. I’m not upset that I have to wait longer for it to be released, im upset because this game is going to be irrelevant soon by the way they’ve been doing things. People are starting to not give a shit anymore because nothings happening!!! With a game that doesn’t have a whole lot of content it is going to fail if we don’t get the freaking ball rolling already!!! For most people “you’ll see” isn’t going to cut it. I can wait and enjoy the game as it slowly gets released but I want there to be a future for this game. Microsoft needs to hire more people and get more content for it quickly. Season 2 should already be announced and someone should be working on season 2 right freaking now!! My favorite fighting game of all time but if something doesn’t change it’s freaking doomed and we’ll be lucky if a season 2 happens next year 🙁

    1. You hit the nail on the head, man. Handling of information on KI has been lousy… and delaying the Fulgore trailer (when we know it’s already done) isn’t any wiser. A trailer release would keep angry/anxious fans entertained for a while, talking about the game itself instead of raging on boards about the possible delays.

  13. They really need to focus on Fulgore instead of all this other crap. We’ve went this long without a story and lobbies, we can wait longer. When they released Spinal, we had to wait the WHOLE month for release. I was hoping they wouldn’t do the same thing with Fulgore. We’re still going to have bugs and we’ve waited so it ends up a lose/lose situation.

  14. It has gotten to the point where I am starting not to even care any longer. This game is quickly becoming a whatever kind of game, and this really ain’t helping it any. I’ve already moved on to other titles. I am hoping they get their crap together soon, but its not likely.

  15. so let see 1st spinal took to long then thunder got fucked over now this you know what i give up fuck this double helix give your game to amazon allreddy because im sick of your crap

    1. Actually it is Microsoft not Double Helix Games that has the property and licensing rights to this game, not the other way around. Also it is Amazon that ACQUIRED DH Games

  16. Now if I can get my OCD kid to understand this maybe I can finally relax. Kinda wish that fulgore was a top priority instead of all the adding costumes an such, which in my opinion could have been added after a major character.

    1. Who really cares about the story of a fighting game anyway!? MK9 had the best single player campaign of any fighting game, by far and I only went through it once. This game needs no story.

      1. In the case for Killer Instinct I do as well as the other KI fans especially the hardcore, die-hard ones

      2. I care about story too. It’s by no means vital to the game, but it adds a lot of depth when characters have a background and a reason to fight.

  17. It’s being delayed because they all left and went to amazon already. Remember spinal? He will be out in January. Aka jan 31st. Why not just say April to being with since you ditched the game you hyped up for sales. You said ud be there to create it and listen to the fans. Then sold out for money. Not wonder double helix has such a bad rep.

    1. Amazon bought the “company” Double Helix. The actual team that worked on Killer Instinct was scooped up by Microsoft. So in effect nothing has changed except who signs the checks of the Ki development team.

  18. If Fulgore and Story/Arcade Mode is delayed beyond March and extended into April then so be it. I am willing to wait just a little more longer to be officially release especially for the development team to work out and resolve any last remaining glitches and bugs in this already great fighting game. Above all I strongly believe that the delay and extended wait (if it does occur) will all be worth it in the long-run especially

    1. And overall I now completely understand the developers’s reasonings behind their planned delay for Fulgore and Story/Arcade Mode: To work out and at the same time prevent any last remaining bugs and glitches for Killer Instinct

  19. Well, they have kind of backed themselves into a corner because now they don’t have any margin for error. If they delay the release and when it finally does come and there is glitches and bugs anyway, people are really going to be upset.

Part of me feels like they should have waited another year to release this. I don’t think they’ll ever do something like this again, It’s hasn’t been a disaster but I think all these incomplete releases, delays, and technical issues have put a huge black mark on Killer Instinct that has taken off more than a little luster.

    1. Unfortunately, Killer Instinct will never amount to anything so long as Microsoft is involved. Why? Let’s look at Microsoft’s track record lately

      Windows Phone 7/8
      Windows 8.x
      Surface
      XBO Announcement Controversy

Microsoft has the opposite of the Midas Touch. Anything they touch instead of turning to gold turns to crap. Skype is headed that way and Hotmail languished for years.

Killer Instinct is barely hanging on and that’s only because DH seems to understand what makes a great fighting game. I wasn’t impressed at first, but after Orchid and Spinal, DH turned it around and the mechanics seem spot-on.

Yet, the game is still in beta and everyone is a beta tester, like it or not. Microsoft knew that they couldn’t compete head on with PS4 on price or even hardware specs, so they scrambled to get another lure at launch, hence Killer Instinct’s reboot.

Like Windows 8.x they rushed to get something out the door with the enticement of “free to play”. KI has to be free to play almost by default because the game is bare-bones.

The slow, agonizing trickle of updates and content remind of me Windows 8. It’s a mess, but let’s just patch it as we go; people won’t mind….it’s Killer Instinct and they waited almost two decades so they’ll deal!

Yeah, no. In this day and age, people have choices and will not stand for sub-par products. KI should have been 75% if not 100% complete before launch, not this half-assed product that was shoved out.

They need to rework the marketing and release schedule of content. This “wait and see” isn’t flying with anyone aside from the most hardcore of fans.

At least lay out what you’re planning, including all characters. At this point it’s safe to assume all characters from both KI games will be in it. The longer this drags on, the less likely people will jump on board with KI much less stay with it.

      1. Hopefully not and at the same time let us be hopeful for the sake and future of Killer Instinct

  20. I would rather wait and get a quality update with minor bugs then have them rush an update with major bugs. Quality>Quantity. Take the time you need to get it right. It’s a lot content so I anticipated March being too early for release. Mid/End of April sounds reasonable. Or they can release Fulgore end of March and Story Mode and Lobbies later in April. Regardless I want a quality product.

    1. Indeed, yes. I definitely agree with u and I am totally with u on those too. Good points there and the delay and wait would all be worth it as well. Overall as u just said and as this saying/expression perfectly puts it “Quality over quantity”

  21. I’m sure it’ll be worth the delay (if it’s delayed). Jail glitch, log in glitch, replay glitch… Some of these made a great game unplayable. Get it right Microsoft/Double Helix. I just hope it’s worth the wait.

    1. I get your point, but it just made it unplayable for a certain group. Some people, like myself, don’t care about online… so Jail, log in and replays don’t even matter.

  22. No, no, no … don’t do that. I’ll go crazy if it gets delayed beyond March. Just release it, and iron out any issues later.
