In a heartwarming message on his Facebook page, Killer Instinct composer Mick Gordon surprised KI fans with the revelation that he will not be composing music for Killer Instinct: Season 3.

To my dearest Killer Instinct friends,

I give the greatest thanks to you all for your incredible support and trust with this kick ass fighting game. I’ve been a devoted fan of Killer Instinct for 22 years and it has been a dream, an honor and great privilege to be involved in the re-imagining of the Ultratech universe. The opportunity to dabble in the world laid down by Robin Beanland, Graeme Norgate and the rest of the exceptional team at Rare has been an absolute dream…

Friends, I’m sad to say that the time has come for me to move on to something new.

I’d like to shout out a massive heart-felt thanks to Double Helix Games, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy for allowing me to share in this truly amazing experience. These passionately dedicated teams have been an endless source of inspiration and they all share a deep, infectious love of the Killer Instinct universe. Speaking as a fan, we’ve all been incredibly lucky to have these groovy people behind the development of KI.

And to you, the fans that have made all this hard work and late-nights worthwhile, I thank you from the bottom of my linker-parry-windkick-quartercircle-monster-combo-heart. I’ve absolutely adored every tweet, forum post, email, FB message, letter, handshake, hug and fistbump. Your endless support and encouragement is the driving force behind the Killer Instinct sound. We do this for you. There would be no KI without you. Thank you. Keep blocking, spot those lights/mediums/heavies, trick a lock-out and go in for Ultra!!!

ULLLLTRRAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!

On a personal level, I’m going to really miss Mick. From day one, he has been a huge supporter of KIC when he provided us with the Killer Instinct Music Suite as an exclusive to launch the site with back on July 26th, 2013. I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone this, but he also allowed me the huge honor of being a part of Aganos’ theme by having the privilege of being one of the participants “singing: the chant in the song. I did get to meet Mick as well. Almost a year ago to the day, I sat down with him, Ali and Casey Edwards, and the composers of the Mass Effect trilogy and Bloodborne to have dinner at the Yard House in downtown Los Angeles. For me that was one of the greatest moments of my life. Mick is an incredibly amazing fellow–they all are!–and you couldn’t ask for better company to be around. He’s nice, very knowledgeable in his work and as passionate about Killer Instinct as you could possibly imagine. He’s not just someone working on the game, he’s a fan as much as you and I who had the unique opportunity to work on something that he adores.

I’ll miss hearing his music in Killer Instinct, but I think I speak for everyone in saying that he has left behind a legacy with the franchise that we’ll all forever enjoy. Thank you Mick for all you done with the franchise and wish you the best on your with the next entry of Doom and all other future endeavors.

  1. This Killer Instinct is really his baby as far as music. A shame to see him go but as an artist you have to keep moving to new things or you will become to comfortable and get stuck in a rut.

Hopefully and prayerfully there will be someone waiting in the wings that can take the music to a higher level the same way Iron Galaxy took the ball from Double Helix and took the game itself to a higher level.

  2. Goodbye AND farewell Mick Gordon for composing the kickass, awesome, and amazing music for all us KI fans and overall for Killer Instinct. We KI fans will miss you AND your tremendous musical works greatly and may the overall KI community wish you the best of luck too on your next new projects as well as musical endeavors 🙂

  3. I say because it’s true killer instinct is a great game but his music combined made for an unforgettable game. Whoever takes over for the music of this franchise has some very big shoes to fill I wish them the very best of luck

  4. Mick, you are the shit!
That being said it’s a good thing, from a creative standpoint, for him to move on and experience new things. In addition, it allows another skilled individual or group to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise. Forward on.

  5. Very sad day indeed!! 🙁 Mick will be missed and KI will not be the same without him!!!! I don’t care how good Atlas and Cell Dweller are. But…we shall see!
