  1. Whoa! Wow! Now that’s what I called a KILLER bump/increase for the enhanced resolution in Killer Instinct’s graphics 🙂

    1. A lot. Killer Instinct has a lot of real-time physics, lighting, and particle effects which people take for granted. To allow for this to be in a native 1080p 60FPS format with no dips is EXTREMELY difficult in a closed-system format like a console. It’s a lot easier with a PC because you can always switch out memory, GPU, and CPU to handle demands of games running at max settings.

For a console that is not an option, especially with a console with x86 architecture in which you pretty much have full access to the consoles max capabilities right off the bat. For the past 20 years or so consoles have used PPc architecture (Wii U still uses it) in which it takes much longer to max out the console’s power, but you have much more capability on the backend.

I’m actually impressed they are able to do what they have done. I also think people get the wrong idea about 1080p. People look at a game that has 1080p 60FPS native and think it is a huge masterful technological achievement, but you have to pay attention to precisely what is happening in that game. If the game is not using a lot of taxing graphical performance it is very easy to have a game run in native 1080p 60FPS. Technically the PS3 and 360 are capable of doing that so it’s no sweat for PS4, XB1, and Wii U. However 8th gen games have a much larger scale than 7th gen games do. In the 7th gen you would look at backgrounds that looked real but was just a high resolution image on a single polygon plane. Now, you are seeing that the backgrounds are actually THERE. It’s not just a picture anymore, they actually have the power in hardware to physically build all of that. Having all this real estate fully-textured eats up a LOT of resources.

In the case of KI, just look at that huge bell on Jago’s board. Not only is it actually there and interactive, but you can see the minute detail in the bell from a distance. There are a lot of nuances in KI like this. Next time you play take a look. Cheers. 🙂

      1. Thank you for the response and the knowledge xpander2k. I appreciate u giving a legitimate response without being rude about it because I meant that question in all seriousness because I was unaware of the difficulties. Again, thank you buddy…. FIGHT ON!!!
