When Killer Instinct Xbox One was announced as a digital only game at last year’s E3, fans were distraught, upset, angry. Of course, as time passed and everyone learned of how the game was being developed, it became more accepted as a digital only title. In fact, I’m sure very few people would even want it on a disc, at least not at the moment. There just isn’t enough content to warrant a physical release–but that may not always be the case.
When asked about a physical, retail release during yesterday’s PlayXbla KI stream, Microsoft Creative Director, Adam Isgreen, claimed that the new KI may in fact see a retail release one day. He made it quite clear, however, that that wouldn’t happen until the end of Season Two (assuming KI gets a Season Two) at the earliest. By then, the game would have enough content to warrant being released into stores. But don’t hold off on purchasing the game for this reason. Based on the assumption that it does actually happen, then it would be sometime in late 2015 when it would become a reality.
So if you’re someone who doesn’t believe in digital content or just wants a physical copy, then there’s hope! It may be a long shot, but it would certainly look incredibly nice alongside those copies of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct Gold wouldn’t it?
