At the end of the ‘Future of Killer Instinct Panel’ at PAX East 2015, Microsoft and Iron Galaxy held a Q&A session where they took questions from a handful of fans and answered them as they saw fit. I’ve spent quite some time listening to that particular section and have transcribed all of the questions and answers and placed them into text format for you all to read. Here it is:
Question #1: Who is Aria?

Answer: Aria is the CEO of UltraTech. She runs the entire operation. She has very grand plans for the human race. You will find out more about her in the coming months. You will see a tease for her of course at the end of Cinder’s trailer, which is coming pretty soon too. But she is not to be trifled with.

Question #2: Any chance of getting a setting where you don’t have to sit through an Ultra Ender every time?

Answer: Right now once an Ultra starts, you can actually exit and there’s no loss coming from it to you or anything like that. But we’re talking about ways to, like, “hey gg, but I want to go and check for the next match”. So that’s definitely stuff that we want to add to the game allowing you guys to play as much as you want to play.

We definitely, in ranked in particular, we have talked about that. We are looking at some way to gg out of that without having to sit there and watch that. Because if it doesn’t work you don’t want to take a loss in rank. In Exhibition it’s a little harder because you’re going to maybe keep playing the same person so you have to kind of watch the shenanigans and smile and do it back to them.

Question #3: Does Hisako have a taunt at all?

Answer: She does have a taunt, but it’s not ready to show just yet.

Question #4: Are there any plans to use the Shadows feature in any current games or other future projects your working on?

Answer: In Forza, we have Driveatars. This is a different system than that. This is… imagine slicing you up into little bits of all the behaviors you do based on different situations and different characters and ranges and everything, and making that something that plays exactly like you and modify it. It’s a very cool system. I’ve never seen anything like it before in fighting games. We have a lot of really big plans for how it’s going to expand over time. Much like in KI you know how we put something in the game it’s always like a 1.0, and then we just start building on it and building on it and building on it over time. So you can expect to see the Shadow Fighters really begin to take on their lives and do really cool things.

Question #5: Is it [Shadows] planning on being something where your friends can take on your Shadow or is it just now you fighting your Shadow?

Answer: Those are details that will be in the next rollout. I think a lot of the stuff you’re talking about is stuff that we’re interested in. To add on to what Adam was saying… One thing about Shadows is that it is actually.. the way that we mimic your behavior is that it sort of responds to the same stimuli that you would respond to. You know, you’re always analyzing situations, analyzing your opponent. You have things that you do and reactions to things that your opponent does and that’s exactly how it works.

Question #6: Any plans to bring Killer Instinct to PC at all?

Answer: We don’t have any plans for it right now, but I can’t say what’s going to happen in the future.

Answer: Stay tuned for later this year. Stay tuned and we may have some news on what might be happening next.

Question #8: What kind of character genre do you want to go down for, say, future characters that you haven’t been down yet?

Answer: Okay. So this is all theoretical, so… There is a theory… now it’s a theory now so nothing confirmed… We have a bunch of cool things. Like I’ve said on Twitter, I have a lot of great ideas of what we could do with Kim Wu and Tusk… Gargos. One of the great things about KI is that because we can embrace this wonderful menagerie…Right, that’s one of the best things about Killer Instinct is because we can have a robot fighting a dinosaur; a mummy fighting a giant golem.. this dude on fire! That’s one of the greatest things about the game and we continue to make really fun and compelling characters. We never wanted to blow the roster out into a huge number. What we want to do make sure that every character delivered on feeling different, on feeling powerful and feeling fun and feeling like they fit within KI.

Question #9: Is there anything or are you thinking of any way to kind of make an interface to make running tournaments slightly easier?

Answer: We’re definitely looking into ways to make it easier to do tournaments whether your sitting in your living room or your online. Especially if you’re an online tournament organizer. We see the effort you’re putting in. We sit there an watch Twitch with you guys sometimes four hours, eight hours. It is amazing. It is an honor and we’re definitely looking at it for the future. Send us your feedback on the kind of features you want to see at Ultra-Combo in our Dev Feedback section and hit us up. We definitely want to know what you’re thinking. Guys you know like Adam Heart “Keits”… these guys know how to run tournaments, giant huge tournaments. So we’ve got some of the best guys working for us are tournament organizers and we want to hear everybody else’s ideas.

One of the things that Keits always does when he sees online tournaments is that he makes notes. You see, we do a lot of balance changes so that’s usually from stuff he sees on the streams. So then we go back and triage it with James and the Microsoft guys and try and figure out which of these things are a thing. We also talked a lot about commuting them versus offline about things that they think might be cheaper to kind of balance.

Question #10: One of my favorite things about KI was being able to overcome Shadow Jago and his story and unlock his stage for that. I was just wondering if there was any plans to create more unlockables in that style and integrate them into the story such as accessories etc. that might be unlocked or through trials, or that type of thing.

Answer: We love that kind of stuff too. It was really fun to have that and you could unlock the stage. We may do something like that in Season 2. I can’t really confirm or deny, but we love having that kind of stuff and we’ll listen to the feedback and maybe have the opportunity to do that kind of stuff.

Question #11: One of the coolest surprises was going through the costumes and seeing that Combo had costumes like Kick from Divekick. It was amazing and one of my favorite things and I was wondering if you have any other plans for sort of cameos like that?

Answer: We did have an menage to Phantom Dust with Maya so you can be sure that we’re always looking into different ways that we can kind of tie cool costumes across all of our characters.

Question #12: I do like Fulgore a lot and I know that there is a nerf coming for his Heavy Laser. I was wondering if you have any more insight as to what that’s looking like. It leaning more towards short range… if so, how much would it be shortened by…?

Answer: We’ve tried both methods. Currently though the version that I saw before I flew out to PAX is just kind of based on the feedback at Ultra-Combo. We had a version working with the shortened range with the laser beam and we’re kind of testing that stuff out.

    1. They said that out of the fighters that were revealed, Omen was the bonus character and not part of the original 8 fighters that they were going to introduce. This month makes Hisako character number 6. After her trailer is shown, Cinder will be next. Aria is the last of the original 8.
