EXCLUSIVE: Will Gargos Return As Killer Instinct Xbox One’s Antagonist?

In a few short months from now, Killer Instinct Xbox One will finally be receiving its much anticipated story mode. Details on what exactly it will consist of are scarce, but I think it’s safe to assume that there will be some sort of great and powerful being that will serve as the game’s primary antagonist. I have come to believe that the villain of the game will be none other Gargos, having somehow survived the events of Killer Instinct 2/Gold and found his way to the present, most likely by means of the newly re-banding UltraTech.

The first hint of Gargos’ potential return to the KI universe is within the early pages is the official Killer Instinct Fan Book from Prima Games. Within the early pages of the book and the very last line of the author detailing the story, it says “It is probably safe to assume that Gargos was stopped…probably”. That could, of course, mean nothing or be a subtle hint at what to expect. Considering it is an official book and everything contained within likely to be approved by Microsoft and/Double Helix prior to publication, it’s a safe bet to believe that there could be something to it.

Another hint of Gargos’ return comes from the official profile information for Jago. Jago’s profile clearly states that he has been corrupted by Gargos and seeks to rid himself of that corruption (could Shadow Jago be the purging of said corruption?). Perhaps it’s just paranoia, knowing now that had been trained for years and years by a false “spirit” with ulterior motives and sets to relinquish himself from him once-and-for-all; or maybe there’s something more devious at work.

It’s not a massive amount of information divulge from, but the hints above could spell the return of Killer Instinct 2/Gold’s demonic warlord. Assuming my theory here is correct, would you want Gargos back? Or would prefer it be Eyedol or someone new altogether? Share your own thoughts and opinions in the comments!
