IGN had the opportunity to sit down with Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon and discuss the upcoming new entry in the franchise, Mortal Kombat X. During the interview, Ed confirmed that there will DLC characters releasing post-launch, and that some of them will be console exclusive. This likely means that whatever character will be exclusive to the Xbox and Playstation platforms will be from a franchise only featured on those platforms. Could a character from Killer Instinct be one of them?
A few months back, Microsoft Creative Director Ken Lobb and Ed had a very brief exchange on Twitter about “planning” a Killer Instinct vs. Mortal Kombat game during a meet up at E3 (read about it here). That would be a very large undertaking and is unlikely to ever happen, but who’s to say they haven’t been speaking about having a KI guest character in MK? The chances are much more plausible, especially with exclusive console characters confirmed to be in the game! From all of Microsoft’s current first party franchises, what game would possibly fit better than KI? None, of course.
Mortal Kombat X’s release is still a ways off and its post-DLC characters even further, if someone from the Killer Instinct universe were to be in the game, we won’t be finding out for some time. I’ll be hoping for the best though! How cool would it be to see Fulgore battle against Kain or Spinal against Raiden? I’ve heard there is a very good chance a KI character will be in MKX, and will play like the MKX characters , and in return KI3 will be getting a MK character that will play like the KI characters.

I don’t think that they would put fulgore in the game, since the x-ray moves and fatalities would be starnge in him. He does not have a human skeleton or organs. I think that if some character from Killer Instinct appears in Mortal Kombat, then he/she will probaly be human, like Jago, Orchid or Sadira.

I do not know, but I think the idea while not bad,is much different than say the reality of the two games. The new MK is very violent close to the reality of KI, and honestly I do not like the idea of seeing Fulgore (my long time favorite), be disassembled the form that contains the fatalities of the game, not to mention that he has some moves very similar with Kano ( laser eye). Even though it has great potential as a candidate to enter, first have to be studied for the same good finishers, since the main Fulgore finisher (guns) have been removed. That would have to be done first in KI, and then studying the possibility that he join the team of another game. Let’s wait … Big hug!
I believe the tweets they had talking about doing a KI/MK game were just a joke on all levels. And I can’t even see a KI character appearing in MKX. The reason is that the gameplay style of the two games are significantly different, especially with the new KI game with the combo/counter breaker metagame.
The issue this brings up is that whatever character would appear in MKX would almost be completely different than they are in KI in terms of gameplay. With the way MKX has the 3 different play styles for each character, plus fatalities, and (I’m just assuming) a much more involved story mode than KI has or probably will have… that means the MKX version of any KI character would probably take MORE work and manpower to create than the original did in KI for XB1.
Plus, I think most important of all, is that having two version of the same character made by two different companies would open the door to way too much criticism and people saying that one version is better than the other, etc. Even if both versions end up being awesome in their own right, I don’t think IG/Microsoft would want any of their characters to be either tarnished or maybe even shown-up by something that another developer created. From a business and IP perspective, there is too much risk with hardly any reward.
But if there was going to be a character from KI in MKX, I think it would be spinal. How interesting would it that when his bones get broken, you can see them broken for the rest of the match.

This is KILLER news for both KI and MK. I don’t really care which KI character is going to make its debut appearance in MKX and so I will take whichever character from KI is going to be in MKX 🙂
It be fulgore he fits best in the mk world mike because hes an killer robot guest characters are hard to find for MK the fact is people from other companys take it as disrespect no one wants to see an capcom character or an killer instinct character die in such an gorey end people feel that way Mk n KI arent really completeing with another because their on the same console what you guys think post your thoughts on the subject thank you
Yes, I have heard about Fulgore being a potential and very likely guest character for and in MKX so I’m perfectly fine and content with that now 😉
Also Fulgore will fit perfectly right in and alongside with the other killer cyborgs including Cyrax and Sektor 😉
