UPDATE: Some good news! If you do still have your Pin Ultimate Edition code, it is still possible to register it even if you already had the game. Just activate it through your Xbox One by typing in the 25-digit code manually or using the QR code via Kinect. Also, the pins will actually cost fifteen dollars, not twenty-five as I had previously reported. Also, in the terms and conditions it actually does state that the game must be registered on Xbox One in addition to the registration page. A full-fledged FAQ will be released soon. I apologize for any confusion.

Original story below…

First of all, I want to say that if you purchased the Pin Ultimate Edition and used that code to download and activate the game, then this post isn’t for you. For everyone else who has the Pin Ultimate Edition and had purchased and downloaded the Ultra Edition beforehand, then I’m afraid I have some bad news to share.

Now as you as already know, there are occasional challenges tailored for Pin Ultimate Edition owners that, when completed, awards you with a new Pin to add to your collection. However, the only way that you officially qualify as a participant on in the challenge is if you actually used the code that came with the Pin Ultimate Edition to download the game. So if you had already purchased and downloaded the Ultra Edition of the game before receiving the Pin Ultimate Edition version, then I’m afraid your code is useless for completing the challenges. You can still register it, but as it turns out, Microsoft will have no way of actually tracking that you completed the challenges. This is their official response when asked about the subject on the Double Helix Forums

“Sorry, but unfortunately you can’t. There would be no way for us to track your in-game achievements without activating the Pin Ultimate Edition copy.

Be sure that the Pin Ultimate Edition add-on is part of your game library (press MENU button on top of the KI tile and go to ‘Show all add-ons’).”

I find this to be very disheartening and somewhat misleading as there was no indication of this beforehand. I, like many others, purchased the game before receiving the Pin Ultimate Edition due to it not arriving the same day the game released. Or worse still for those who just recently bought it but owned the game already. A work around for this should be worked into place somehow as I feel that those of us who spent the extra cash are getting the short end of the stick. Can we all still acquire the additional pins? Yes, we can… For twenty-five dollars each, not including shipping costs. I’m hoping that Microsoft and/or Double Helix will address this issue soon.

How many of you find yourselves in this very predicament? If you do, then please voice your concerns in the comments below and I’ll ensure that they are forwarded to the proper individuals.
