New Killer Instinct news is beginning to trickle down the pipeline from Microsoft and Iron Galaxy, with pretty cool new stuff being revealed by Adam Isgreen today. First and foremost is the official confirmation that Gargos will be returning in Season 3 next year. We’ve suspected his involvement since day one, with the description of Shadow Jago’s bio not shying away from mentioning the demonic warlord. And then, of course, there’s Omen, who himself is Gargos’ herald. But regardless of the speculation and all but saying “he’s back!”, it’s nice to finally have a real confirmation of his return.

Another cool bit is that Adam has been working hard to update the stories for every single character revealed so far in the franchise. Beginning next week, more detailed stories on the characters will be revealed and will continue to be shared every week after up until the new season’s release in March. In addition to that, you’ll receive some fleshed information that ties all of the stories together leading up to Season 3.

Here’s the official word on everything happening direct from Adam as posted on Ultra-Combo, where you can also read about the return of the textual streams, Twitch streaming, and a tease for some new info on everyone’s favorite Battletoad…

Hi everyone,

If you played through season 2’s story, you know we’ve set some things in motion regarding characters and events that will form the basis of season 3’s conflicts.

But some characters, particularly some S1 characters, didn’t get as much exposure during S2’s story as many of their loyal fans would have liked. What have these characters been up to? Where have they been? How are they dealing with the imminent arrival of Gargos and Ultratech’s machinations? What about their own personal trials and tribulations? And what about their backstories? Is there more to these characters that we don’t know already? Give us answers!

Well, you’re going to get them – over time — leading up to Season 3.

We’ve been working through every character’s backstories from season 1 and 2, expanding and elaborating on their activities from season 1 onwards, tying them together in interesting ways, and giving you more insight into each character and their origins. We’ll be rolling out updated bios, new backstory information, and more detailed explanations of each character’s activities one at a time – one per week actually – until every character has been showcased. You should consider the character section of our web page an ever-evolving source of KI canon lore.

Additionally, with each character update we’ll also highlight an upcoming change that character is receiving (or we’re considering) as part of the season 3 rebalance. For those immediately saying “rebalance?! What?! More info!” As we roll up to launch, we’ll also be discussing the overall system changes and features that season 3 will bring to the game, so don’t worry. Quick version: KV changes (bigger combos!), many characters are getting buffs, a few are getting nerfs / balance changes, and two (ooh! Drama! Which two?) are having some rework done to them.

We’re very excited about what we’re rolling out for Killer Instinct’s 3rd season and we can’t wait to share more with all of you!

  1. I think eyedol have to be on the game too, first off on snes and arcade when ever you activate the code on snes w cinder and arcade with riptor which is I don’t know the code it appears invisible on the fight on screen, and comparing with gargos is more easy to see him once you activating the code on n64 and arcade and apreciate his image and you can select him on the character select roster even tho change the color, so let eyedol be on KI season 3, please iron galaxy I know I could be more hype, the game with the whole roster reveal

the whole roster staff is Kim Wu, Tusk, Gargos and Eyedol not Kim Wu, Tusk and, Gargos.
please Microsoft don’t ruined the game this time.
I’m a huge fan of this game since 1994 on his first game on the snes then on 1995 on the n64 after that wait up almost 2 decades I purchase it the whole KI complete edition season 1, then have me the code for shadow jago Could you imagine almost $170 on one game and plus one it came up as a released season 2, I get me the ultra edition for $ 20 or 40 I don’t remember, please make it possible include eyedol on season 3.

  2. Character endings and rivalry Needs to be cinematic. Also there should be varied character interaction at the ntro.

    1. they definitely need to be improved, not sure about cinematic i think that would end up looking cheesy. I would rather it was done with really good artwork like a comic strip

  3. Eyedol e Gargos na mesma temporada , acho que não! Eyedol vai fica para uma possível temporada 4 !!

  4. I hope that the game doesn’t change too much. As for buffs, buff characters that actually need it and nerf characters who need nerfs *cough*Spinal*cough*. As for having longer combos please no. The combos are fine in my opinion. The times are fine, longer combos don’t make a game better. As for the characters I hope glacius changes for the better and not change drastically same thing for aganos which honestly I don’t think he needs too much just a couple of small things. Otherwise I’m excited! This season looks very good!
