I asked the developers today during the Microsoft livestream which version of the original Killer Instinct players would be getting with their purchase of the Ultra Edition of the game. They confirmed that is the Arcade version of the game, but that there would be two different ROMS available. They didn’t quite elaborate on that, but I would assume that the second would be the SNES version?

They also confirmed (again) that the classic KI will not be playable online at launch, but they do hope to have that added later on. Achievements will also be included in the game, some of which will be very challenging to unlock.

  1. keep in mind we’re really not supposed to own roms if we don’t own the source arcade machines. I’ll be glad to delete my KI1 rom for an officially licensed version.

  2. Even though Nintendo produced every version of Killer Instinct besides the one coming out for the XBOX One, it seems pretty silly to suggest the SNES version would be on the XBOX One. Yes, there are two rom sets for Killer Instinct arcade and that is probably what they are talking about.

I already have KI 1 and 2 for MAME and they run beautifully. Unless they are going to upscale this to HD and remaster it a little bit and add online I’m not really interested. I’ll just keep what I got. However for people too young to remember Killer Instinct it definitely would be a nice tool to educate this young pups on what real fighting game is.

  3. He could be talking about the two roms that has the Arcade Version of KI, 1.0 and 1.5 if I remember good. Not necessarily the rom of Sens Version, that wouldn’t be an Arcade Version, that would be a console version.
